It’s quite likely that you would have run into Jackie Boyd out and about in the Wanaka area. She has been active in the community for the past fifteen years volunteering her time to a diverse range of worthy causes including Rotary Club of Wanaka, Montessori Children’s House and the Luggate Ratepayers Association to name but a few.
She is also synonymous with the provision of Commercial, Life and Health Insurance in the region, having over twenty years experience in the industry. She is an Associate Member of Insurance Brokers Association New Zealand (IBANZ) and has been a Qualified Practicing Insurance Broker (QPIB) since 1998.
Return to the fold
October sees Jackie opening the Otago branch of Penberthy Insurance at 12 Fredrick Street Wanaka as director and co-owner with the Penberthy family.
This is a reunion with old friends as Jackie worked with founder Bruce Penberthy over twenty years ago in Auckland, and she credits Bruce with “teaching me everything I know” about insurance, putting the customer at the centre of her world, and truly providing a tailored insurance solution to meet the needs of her clients, many of whom have become close friends over the years.
Penberthy Insurance is one of the country’s leading independent insurance brokers, and Jackie has stayed good friends with Bruce and his sons who also work in the business over the intervening years.
Risk and Opportunity
So why choose now to make the leap into starting a new venture, given the tough economic climate and many people “tightening their belts”?
For Jackie, the timing seemed perfect. “Richard Penberthy, Bruce’s eldest son has really moved the business into a forward thinking, client focused business with significant investment in their IT systems, processes and new branding which is having a positive impact in the market, and I wanted to be a part of it” says Jackie.
She sees the opportunity to take the strengths of Penberthy and apply them to her local customer base, and it is clear that both she and the rest of the Penberthy team think alike.
“What’s important to me is getting to know my clients, truly understanding their needs across all avenues of their insurance risk and providing them with the right solution. I know that the Penberthy team feel the same, and in fact during these more challenging times, our ability to consult with our clients and offer tailored solutions to meet their needs is actually more important than ever”.
Breadth and depth
15 years in Wanaka has deepened Jackie’s knowledge and understanding of the local people and their needs. She has experience in a wide range of industries from Tourism and Construction through to Winemaking and the specialist area of Sporting Events. She enjoys the challenge of niche fields for clients who have chosen to live the Wanaka lifestyle and who have created interesting businesses here to support them.
No stranger to sporting events herself, she has developed a passion for open water swimming, and as part of the Challenge Wanaka 2008 winning “Giz-a-go Girls” team she swam 3.8km in Lake Wanaka. Not one to stand still, she is now busy training for Challenge Wanaka 2010 as part of a mixed team with members of the Montessori Children’s House board. Her team is called “The Full Monty” so keep an eye out for them early next year.
When not working or training, Jackie can be found spending time with her husband, local builder Lance, and her two children Zelda and Ruby out and about in their campervan, or simply enjoying the best of the local area.
A final word
In closing Jackie says “it’s great to be supported by a team who share the same passion and values as I do, and I look forward to being able to provide my old friends with an even greater level of service whilst making more new friends in the local area”.
Jackie can be contacted on 021 522 556 any time or drop in for a coffee and a chat.
